theres a new definition of "sadist" in the OED - it reads "someone who is still watching Flash Gordon" - and thats one of the shows im still watching... :s
dunno why, its a load of crap, and even the women arent that good looking - indeed, two of them are fugly, and the third is the spitting image of my cousin, so im not even going to go there.
journeyman is just about to get binned, and rightly so.
womens murder club - the books were interesting, the tv show... isnt...
reaper - this is one that people either love or hate - it started out really strongly, but seems to have lost its way recently.
bionic woman - ditch the "adventure of the week" format, and get back to chasing after the first one...
moonlight - not as good as blood ties (which has apparently just been binned), but IIRC has just been given either a full season order, or renewed for a second season.


life - now, this is more like it - a police procedural that takes a new look at the genre - theres a nice twist to the way the main character approaches each case.
its just been given a full season order, so lets see how this one pegs out.
chuck - oh, how i love thee.

pushing daisies - what can i say about this that hasnt been said before?

plus one ive been watching that ISNT covered by most people as it isnt american.
city homicide (from australia) - an extremely strong ensemble cast, well written stories, and a legal system that isnt TOO far removed from the one over here, which makes a change for british viewers after so many years of police drams from t'other side of the pond.

plus, coming up, we have sarah connor chronicles - which isnt going to last anywhere near as long as weve been waiting for it - and new amsterdam, which has a detailed (yet largely spoiler-free) review on my LJ.


so, my fave 3 (in no particular order) - chuck, pushing daisies, life, with reaper and city homicide following pretty close.

Id have to peg Pushing Daisies as my favourite show, but I have a sneaking feeling that the novelty might wear off on that show.

Im really liking Chuck, the little Ive seen of this, as I decided to watch it on 'regular' TV, so there would be something to watch later.

Sarah Connor is the big unknown, I really hope it lives up to the hype, but as an expensive show on fox, it will have to be REALLY good to survive. Also as a mid season replacement, there might only be a few episodes made, and that might not be enough to win it an audience if it has a strike imposed break almost as soon as it starts.

I'm watching Journey Man and loving it.

There are plenty of things I want to watch (Pusing Daisies is probably my most anticipated) but I've not bothered with the dowloading thing this year.

I'll wait to see if things get to sky / e4 / ltv / etc.

Despite Blair's best efforts, our legal system's not that different from America's, since both are rooted in common law. If you want a really alien police drama then watch the French Spiral. Actually watch it anyway, a damn good piece of TV.

Unfortunately it was shown last year, so I can't nominate it for best newcomer. Guess I'll plumb for The Tudors, an American take on that homicidal dynasty that's saved from TV purgatory with an English cast and writer. It's far from perfect, but a suitably psychotic performance from Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry VIII and Sam Neill at his slimy best help compensate for a plot that moves slower than a tortoise on the list for a hip replacement.

Nothing really amazing this year though, and with the writers strike across the pond it looks likely that 2008 will be a lean'un as well.
