Ahh, so that's why they're already available for download.
24 Season 6 ep 1 - 4
Finally our old friends are back, or what remains of them after the slaughter of last season. Season 6 of 24 is about to role onto our screens and Oh my god am I excited. No celebrity big brother for me……. No I’ll happily sit there weeks on end biting my nails until I’m finally being guided from one cliff hanger to the next.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with 24 (shame on you!) I’ll quickly explain what 24 is all about. Each episode covers one hour of “real timeâ€, with a couple of 5 minute gabs for commercials, and as the show’s name might suggest all events in a whole season take place on one day. Although you might say that if you wanted to see a day real-time Big Brother does a way better job at this and you get a lot more days to boot, in this series we do not follow the life of some down on their luck “celebrity†or your average Joe from a rundown town in Essex. No! We follow the life of Jack Bauer a secret agent working for the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) as portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland who really embodies everything that the Walker Texas Ranger was 14 years ago.
Luckily (for some) Fox has decided to give out the first 4 episodes of season 6 on one of those precious silver discs which is to be released directly after these episodes air on the 15th and 16th in the US. Apparently some people couldn’t wait till the 16th and managed to get their hands on it and spread the love.
From this point onwards there will be some (major) spoilers for all those people who haven’t seen ep 1 to 4 of season 6…. (seriously this review has more aerodynamic drag than a F1 car!)
In the last installment we saw how Jack Bauer saved the day but in the end got knocked out and taken on a freighter to China by his captives. Today it is 2 years later and the war against terror hasn’t gone well for the USA as in the weeks coming up to this series more and more terror attacks have taken place on US soil killing hundreds. In a desperate attempt by the President (Wayne Palmer, yes people the brother of) they have negotiated with the Chinese for the release of Jack Bauer only so he can give his life for his country once more. A known associate of the head of the terror cell is willing to give his leader up but only if the US government gives him Jack Bauer (and a couple of million).
In the Whitehouse however tensions rise as how do we keep the US people safe? Do we lock up everyone who prays towards Mekka to protect the people or is freedom more important. Our good friend Dr. Larry Fleinhardt (Peter MacNicol) who got shot into space for 6 months in Numb3rs now appears as one of the top advisors to the President who is pretty keen on locking everyone away.
Although Jack gets handed over and seems completely helpless he manages to escape from his captors by taking a page out of Blade’s book but not before finding out that the head of the terrorist organization is actually the one trying to bather a peace between the terrorists and the West and that his right hand man is actually behind all the attacks and is using this opportunity to get his boss out of the way.
Free from his captors Jack tries to convince the president that he’s going to make a mistake. However after spending 2 years in a Chinese detention camp doubt about his mental state don’t really help his case much leaving Jack all on his own to save the leader of the terror cell before the helicopters blow him up. In the meantime the civil unrest becomes clear and the “terror suspects†are detained left right and center fueling the hatred towards the remaining Muslim population.
After saving the terrorist leader Jack and the terrorist leader start working together to take down the real mastermind behind the attacks although Jack doubts he is still capable to do the job he was trained for. Together they manage to prevent an attack on the Metro and keep tabs on the handler hoping that he will bring them to the person everyone is really looking for.
In the meantime we get to follow the terrorists unfolding their plans to get everything they need to detonate a suitcase bomb, a nuclear device made by the Russians. By playing the president once more they manage to free one of their nuclear experts from a secure prison camp. Although one of them has to resort to kidnapping to get the job done leaving possibly providing CTU with some loose ends.
After Jack and the terrorist leader meet up with the CTU field team they try to take in the handler at a self storage facility. However they are spotted and the handler blows up part of the self storage facility destroying their only lead. There is obviously some tension between the leader of the CTU field team and the terrorist leader.
While the father of the kidnapped family does everything to save his wife and kid the mother after being freed calls the police guiding Jack and his team directly to kidnapper but not before the last piece of the nuclear device ends up in the hands of the terrorists. With some help from the kidnapped kid they are able to pin-point down the location were the nuclear device is most likely being stored.
When the amnesty papers come through for the former terrorist leader something snaps with Jacks team leader forcing Jack to shoot (and possibly kill) one of his best friends to protect a terrorist leader causing him to break down and I’m sure the mushroom cloud in the background which was triggered prematurely when the CTU team raided the terrorist hide-out probably didn’t help his mood.
End of spoilering
From what I have seen so far I really cannot wait to see more of this season of 24. Although many of the main characters from the previous seasons will not be returning in this season it still has that 24 feel we all know and if they continue in this pace this is going to be one of the most action packed seasons yet.
